Trip to stoke.

Had my second uni interview today in Staffordshire, centre of the ceramics. And couldn't resist doing abit of material shopping. I went to this large shop called potterscrafts, it will have ANYTHING you are looking for. I was looking for some materialistic inspiration. I then came across these Amaco semi-moist underglazes water colours for ceramics. Not cheap but can't wait to use them!! I also got an underglaze pen with changeable nibs. Come with a bold, med, fine and extra fine! And the kind lady gave me a sample of crank clay! Super excited to get these goodies out and get experimenting!

Thats all for today, Oh yes... I have an interview at Brighton!!!

MORE Life Drawing.

Best life drawing lesson so far! It was all about notion and tapping into the subconscious, iv now been shoe various drawing systems but today was about attempting to by-pass the sometimes worrisome conscious mind and attempt to tap into the subconscious and examine the results. To do this I needed to work quickly by producing an array of studies in set times (between 1min and 10) in a variety of materials! it was a task to be loose, become free with my mark making and overall trusting my automatic instincts!

1 MIN - FINE LINER, WATER COLOUR, CRAYON,

2 MIN - ACTATE, FINE LINER, ACRYLIC PAINT

1MIN, FINE LINER ON CALICO AND WATER COLOUR

4 MINS, CARDBOARD, FINELINER, COLOURED PENCIL, TISSUE PAPER

6 MINS - CARTRIDGE PAPER, WATER COLOUR, FINE LINER, TISSUE PAPER

4 MIN - FINE LINER, TISSUE PAPER, COLOURED PENCILS

2MIN - FINE LINER, WATER COLOUR, COLOURED PENCILS

6 MIN - FINE LINER, BROWN PAPER, TISSUE PAPER, CRAYON, PASTELS, COLOURED PENCILS

SAME AS ABOVE.

2MIN - SUGAR PAPER - WHITE CONTE, COLOURED CHALK, COLOURED PENCIL.

You can certainly see a distingtive style running through all my doings, where the others in my class had a variation to all of theredrawing, but oh well. Im pleased with these, several more and they will go nicely on a DPS in my portfolio :D

I love circles...

Hy visual studies tutor asked me an interesting question today. He said "why is it that you always use circles in your work.?" I just looked at him with a blank face. I couldn't answer him because I don't know why. All I know is that I love circles. They are my thing!
So I thought I should do some research into the meaning of "the circle"

CIRCLE (sun disc, sacred hoop, ring): An ancient and universal symbol of unity, wholeness, infinity, the goddess, female power, and the sun. To earth-centered religions throughout history as well as to many contemporary pagans, it represents the feminine spirit or force, the cosmos or a spiritualized Mother Earth, and a sacred space. (See next item) Gnostic traditions linked the unbroken circle to the "world serpent" forming a circle as it eats its own tail.

  • Inclusion
  • Wholeness
  • Focus
  • Unity
  • Nurturing
  • Cycles
  • Initiation
  • Everything
  • Perfection
  • Womb
  • Centering
  • Revolution
  • Infinity
  • Mobility
  • Completion
The circle symbol meaning is universal, sacred and divine. It represents the infinite nature of energy, and the inclusivity of the universe.

COOL!

3D 'Collection and Containment' Project.

I haven't had any time to blog about this project but fortunately it was successful!

The project theme was "Collection and Containment" Initially I did some brainstorming, thinking about what i could interpret in my collection. Im a fashion lover. Why not base my 3D project on my textile clothing collection, After doing some artist research, i began drawing fabric, looking at its natural characteristic, the way it falls, moves its detailing and textures.

Bellow are some pages from my sketchbook. They are some designs I was dreaming up.
thinking about potential shape and even colours.

Life Drawing, College...

College work update, I've now been doing life drawing since just before christmas. Im finally becoming  slightly more relaxed at drawing her. I think it shows in my work.
I began with a simple pencil sketch. For some reason (probably because i didn't want to stare at her) the drawing i did was miniature! It was like she was floating in mid air. Alot of people said because of the scale, it was making the drawing visually impacting. The sense of lost emotions when looking at this floating figure.

For my first attempt, i'm not completely disappointed! certainly room for improvement.

Second pencil sketch, A1. Still not completed. Next week I will definitely be applying my own style, perhaps a burst of colour. All this pencil is far too characterless and dull!

Week 3. My favourite so far. I can say i prefer working in colour, and in a more loser and abstract style.
I combined some of my favourite materials to work with, watercolours, acrylic paint, bright coloured pencils, chalks and brown paper!

These are two blind drawings I managed to squeeze in at the end of the lesson. Probably my favourite of them all! simple yet effective I think

Finally, after talking to the Esty team, they helped me restore my shop back to normal. Yay! :)
